The Helen Hudson’s Story-telling project is now under the auspices of the Rhode Island Coalition of the Homeless.
No one understands homelessness or how to end homelessness better than our neighbors who have lived it. Yet historically their voices and expertise have been left out of the process or ignored entirely by decision makers.
Voices of Homelessness corrects this injustice through education and advocacy. Voices of Homelessness speakers share their stories to increase understanding about homelessness and thus engage more Rhode Islanders in this crucial fight for housing justice. Speakers also use their stories to advocate for change, for example speaking at press conferences or testifying at the Statehouse.
By breaking down harmful stereotypes and organizing the community to advocate with one voice, the Voices of Homelessness team helps ensure that Rhode Island takes the right steps to truly end homelessness. Help us spread the word!
